Corbitt were brought here [Pocomoke City, Maryland] Sunday at 2:30 P. M. and burial made in the cemetery of St Mary's P. E. Church. Mr. Corbitt died in Jersey City, Thursday, May 5th [1938]. Religious services were held from his late home Saturday [7 May 1938] at 8 P. M., followed by Masonic rites. He was 56 years of age. A native of North Carolina he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Richard Corbitt. He was connected with the Railroad Company and for many made his home in Cape Charles. Mr. Corbitt wed a former Pocomoke girl, Miss Bertie Foster, both of whom are well known throughout this section and have a wide circle of friends in Pocomoke and in Virginia. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Jersey City, a member of Bay View Lodge No. 148 and a member of Craftsman's Club and Scottish Rites. Burial services at the grave were in charge of Rev. John Wootten, pastor of Salem M. E. Church. The active bearers were: Messrs. Cleve Carter, Edward Watson, Thomas S. Corbitt, J. C. Stevenson, Mark Miles and Dr. N. E. Sartorius. Those from away who attended the services here were: Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Phillips, of Nyack, N. Y., Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Henderson, of Baltimore, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Collins, Salisbury, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scarborough, Girdletree, Mrs. Catlin, Fairmount, Mrs. Irving Howell, of Hilton Village, Va., a sister; Mr. Harry Corbitt, of Newport News, a brother; Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Corbitt, of Sunbury, N. C., the former a halfbrother; Miss Gladys Corbitt, of Richmond, Va., a sister; Mr. John Corbitt, of Danville, Miss Irene Corbitt, of Sunbury, N. C., Mr. and Mrs. Mark Miles of New Church, Mr. and Mrs. Marnay Davis of Wattsville. The deceased is also survived by another brother, Mr. Otho Corbitt of Miami Beach who was unable to attend the funeral. Mr. Thomas S. Corbitt of this city, is a nephew.
