Rufus Herbert Corbitt, the father of Becky Babb of Tabb and the pastor of Emmaus Baptist Church in Poquoson from 1950 to 1967, died Nov. 12 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was 75 and a resident of Carrsville. He was born in Southampton County and was a graduate of the University of Richmond and of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. His other survivors include his wife, Adelaide Reamy Corbitt; two sons, Fleming Corbitt of Hampton and David Corbitt of Smithfield; another daughter, Carol Thompson of Warsaw, N.C.; two sisters, two brothers, nine grandchildren and a great grandchild. A funeral was held last Saturday [14 Nov 1981] at Colosse Baptist Church in Isle of Wight County by the Rev. Donald Trump. Burial was in the church cemetery. He was a retired Baptist minister at several baptist churches, including Collossee[Colosse] Baptist Church, and 17 years at Emmaus Baptist Church, Poquoson. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond and the Lutheran Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Becky Babb of Tabb and Mrs. Carol Thompson of Warsaw, N.C.; two sons, Fleming Corbitt of Hampton and David Corbitt of Smithfield; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Mae Drewry of Franklin and Mrs. Abbie Bridges of Chesapeake; two brothers, Charles Corbitt of Franklin and James Corbitt of Newport News; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Collossee Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Trump with burial in the church cemetery.
