**MRS. NANCY BATTEN.** Smithfield. — Mrs. Batten, 56, wife of S. B. Batten, of Kenly, Route 2, died at her home Saturday night. She was found dead in bed early Sunday.  

Mrs. Batten was the daughter of the late Edward and Sarah Corbitt of Johnston County. Funeral rites will be announced later.  

Surviving are her husband; eight sons, Pfc. Elbert Batten, with the Army at Camp Hood, Tex., Preston Batten of Kenly, Route 1, Thurman Batten, Middlesex, Route 1, Paul Batten of near Kenly, Ernest Batten of Route 1, Avery Batten of Kenly, Route 1, Jennell Batten of Kenly, and Lonnie Batten of near Kenly; one daughter, Margaret Batten of Kenly, Route 1; three brothers, Harvey Corbitt, Ivey Corbitt, Arthur Corbitt, all of Selma, Route 1; two sisters, Mrs. N. R. Creech and Mrs. W. A. Parrish, both of Selma, Route 1.
