Yesterday morning [28 Dec 1914] at 12:20 o'clock, at home near Chuckatuck, John Samuel Copeland died, in the 60th year of his age, after a lingering illness. Mr. Copeland had been three times married and is survived by a widow who was Miss Dora Smith, and ten sons and daughters. The deceased was a member of Oakland Christian Church, where today [31 Dec 1914], at one o'clock, the funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. H. Butler, a lifelong friend, and for twenty four years Mr. Copeland's pastor, assisted by Rev. I. W. Johnson, D.D. The interment was in Oakland Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Wilbur Darden, Clifton Darden, Albert Gray, Walter Copeland, Richard Copeland and Wesley Copeland.
