**James S. Copeland**

James Shelton Copeland, father of J. J. Copeland of Newport News, died yesterday, 2 February 1954, at the home of a daughter in Franklin.

A retired farmer, he is survived by three additional sons, J. E. Copeland of Windsor, Waverly, and J. G. C. S. Copeland of Franklin; five daughters, Mrs. Luther W. Blythe of Franklin, Mrs. Linwood Billups of Ivor, Mrs. Minnie Copeland Neal of Blackstone, Mrs. Sherman Butler of Carrsville, and Mrs. Howard Tonier of Hopewell; 28 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM this afternoon, 3 February 1954, in Mt. Carmel Christian Church, Franklin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
