Douglas Claud Obituary Douglas Scott Claud July 8, 1966 - November 4, 2023 Drewryville - Douglas Scott Claud, 57, passed away on November 4, 2023 after a long and courageous bettle with cancer. He was the son of John Meredith Claud and Olivia Claud and Joan Vincent and Jack David Herring. Scott was predeceased by his partner, Ronald L. Welcher, his grandparents, Bob and Nard Claud and Billy and Francis Vincent. Survivors include his uncles, Dan Claud (Sharon), Lindsey Vincent (Scott), Billy Vincent (Helen), one very special aunt, Linda Taylor (John), and a special cousin, Diane Garrett. Scott was a 1984 graduate of Southampton Academy and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Chowan University in 1995. Although forced to retire due to a disability, he had enjoyed the time he spent teaching Adult Basic Education at the Southampton Correctional Center. Scott loved his church, Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, where over the years he held the positions of pianist, choir director, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and superintendent. He was also a member of Drewryville Ruritan Club where he served as secretary for two years, and also served on the Drewryville Cemetery Committee. Scott refinished furniture for many in the So Co community and restored the homes at Three Creeks and Serendipity in Drewryville. A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in Thomas Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Mari Wiles officiating. Burial will be private. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Drewryville Cemetery Fund and Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. Flowers are also welcomed.
