Burial followed in the Griffin family cemetery near Franklin. ## Transcript ISAAC LEE CARTER 8 JAN 1866 - 19 OCT 1950 ISAAC LEE CARTER Isaac Lee Carter, 84, a well known resident and retired merchant of Southampton and Isle of Wight counties, died Thursday night, October 19, at his home in Walters after an illness of a few days. Born in Gates County, N.C., on January 8, 1866, he was the son of the late Andrew and Frances Lee Carter. In May, 1885, he married Miss Rosa Eureka Lee, who preceded him in death in February, 1920. Moving to Southampton County in September, 1920, he became a merchant and remained in this business until about 15 years ago, when he retired because of his age. He was a member of the Black Creek Baptist Church. In December, 1921, he married Miss Bernice Griffin of Southampton County, who survives him. Other survivors are two daughters by his first wife, Mrs. W.C. Eure of Whaleyville and Mrs. S.C. Bristow of Franklin; one son by his surviving wife, Burnley Lee Carter of Walters; and ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a niece. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon [21 October 1950] at 3 o'clock at the Holland Funeral Home in Franklin by his pastor, Rev. J.C. Lanning, assisted by Rev. J. Sidney Cobb, pastor of the Great Fork Baptist Church. Burial was in the Griffin family cemetery near Franklin. Active pallbearers were L.E. Beale, C.C. Edwards, S.T. Spivey, R.W.
