Born in Isle of Wight County, he was predeceased by his parents John William Stephens, Sr. and Mary Holland Stephens of Walters. Billy was a retired Cost Accountant for Union Camp Corporation where he worked for 43 years. He was a member and former deacon of Colosse Baptist Church and a member of Woodman of the World. He served in Battery B 111th Artillery National Guard for six years. Billy was a "people" person, enjoyed mingling and meeting new people, liked his mornings with friends at the Dairy Queen and was a loyal UVA fan. He enjoyed camping at Myrtle Beach and meeting old and new friends from other states. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Faye Edwards Stephens; son, John Brian Stephens and friend Julie Duck and son Jayden Blake; grandson, Brian Shane Stephens; daughter Jennifer S. Bailey and husband Chris and grandson Owen Christopher Bailey. A funeral will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday July 1, 2008 in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Webb officiating.
