Suffolk native Emily Whitley Brock dies at 103 Daily Press Richmond Emily Whitley Brock died Thursday at 103. She had been a resident of the Masonic Home of Virginia since October 1986. Mrs. Brock was born Jan. 18, 1899, in Nansemond County near Norfolk Lake. She was the daugher of the late John Jacob and Virginia Frances Turner Whitley and the widow of Edgar John Brock whom she married on July 11, 1925. Mrs. Brock attended King's Fork Elementary School at Providence Church and graduated from Suffolk High School. She attended Farmville State Teacher's College and later taught in a one-room school. Mrs. Brock k was a member of Windsor Congregational Christian Church and worked beside her husband on their farm in Isle of Wight County. She served as treasurer for the World War I veterans women's auxiliary. Mrs. Brock is survived by her daughters, Marion Beasley of Yorktown, Marie Haas and her husband, Conrad, of Suffolk; a son, Edgar John Brock Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Southport, N.C.; a nephew, Jack Whitley, and his wife, Shirley, of Gloucester; and a cousin, Anna Goode Turner of Suffolk. Mrs. Brock had 10 grand children, 21 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. The Rev. Basil Ballard will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday at Windsor Congregtional Christian Church with burial in the Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
