Walter Lewis Brett 29 May 1868 - 9 Apr 1954 WALTER LEWIS BRETT Como, N. C., April 10-Walter Lewis Brett, 86, prominent farmer of the Como. N. C. community died Friday morning at his home after an Ulness of many months. He was a native of Southampton County, moving to North Carolina when a young man. He was the son of James Elbert and Emma Whitley Brett and the husband of Mrs. Mary Eliza Brett of Como, who survives him. He was the oldest member of New Hope Methodist Church where he served for many years on the board of stewards. Besides his wife he is survived by daughters, Mrs. E. C. Williams, Windsor: W. T. Liverman and Mrs. J. T. Brett, Murfreesboro: Miss Helen Brett, of Como, and Mrs. R. D. Edwards, Franklin; seven sons. Lewis El bert and Dennis Littleton Brett, both of Franklin, Ernest Lee Brett. of Como: Emmette Carson Brett. of Washington: Walter Ashby Brett, of Murfreesboro; Julian Joseph Brett, of Como, and Calvin Smith Brett, of Portsmouth: one sister, Mrs. Rosa Hill, of Norfolk: three half Leo Brett, of Zuni; Jim Guy Brett, and Hubert D. Brett, of Holland; four half-sisters, Eva Whitfield, of Handsoms; Mrs. Venie Williams, of Gates; Mrs. Mary Norfolk, and Mrs. Blanch Gray, of Norfolk: 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the funeral home of J. W. Holland Sons of Franklin and was returned to the residence near Como today, It will be removed to the church one hour before funeral time. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at New Hope Methodist Church at 3 o'clock by the Rev. 0. L. Gochenour, Burial will be in family cemetery near Como.
