Bell, 56, Deputy Sheriff, Succumbs While Making Arrest Franklin, Oct. 12-William Augustus Bell, 56, deputy sheriff of Southampton County for many years, died unexpectedly Monday night near Drewryville while making an arrest. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Bell was born near the old post office known as Silverton, in Southampton County, the son of the late William Dickerson and Elizabeth Briggs Bell, of Southampton County, and husband of Mrs. Edith Beale Bell, who survives him. He was twice the grand chancellor of the Franklin Pythians Lodge No. 51, and an active member of the Courtland Ruritan Club, and of the Courtland Methodist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, William A. Bell, Jr., of Courtland; one brother, Thomas Briggs Bell, sheriff of Southampton County; six sisters, Mrs. Minnie Seal, Misses Eunice and Mary Bell, both of Richmond; Mrs. Fannie Grizzard, of Courtland; Miss Elizabeth Bell, of Coeburn, and Miss Pauline Bell, of Fort' Defiance, Ariz.: one uncle, Thomas Bell, of Wakefield. The body was taken to the funeral home of W. J.bM. Holland and Sons of Franklin, and on Wednesday afternoon will be taken to the Courtland Methodist Church for funeral services at 3:30 o'clock, with the Rev. E. A. McCormick and the Rev. I. A. Kanipe officiating.
