James Bogue Beale 6 APR 1866 - 23 AUG 1929 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DEATH OF JAMES BOGUE BEALE Funeral services for James Bogue Beale, whose death occurred at his home here early Friday morning, August 23, were held Saturday afternoon at Sycamore Baptist Church at 3 o’clock in the presence of a large concourse of friends. Rev. Kenneth E. Burke, Mr. Beale’s pastor, conducted the rites and favorite hymns were sung by the church choir. Interment followed in the churchyard cemetery at Sycamore, the body bearers being Hugh Carter, Linwood Edwards, Floyd Beale, Otis M. Joyner, Marvin Beale, Linwood Cooper, Hubert Beale and Alfred Cobb. The honorary pallbearers were: Tyler Edwards, J. D. Burgess, L. M. Edwards, J. D. Gardner, W. T. Harcum, Eddie Vaughan, J. T. Vaughan, Frank Edwards, Jesse Edwards, R. E. Darden and Arthur Howell. Mr. Beale was born at Riddicksville, N. C., April 6, 1865, the son of the late Ethelred and Mrs. Sallie Beale and had spent the greater part of his life in the Franklin community. He married Miss Mary E. Wills of this county who survives him with eight children, three sons, John E., Willard and Herbert Beale of Franklin, and five daughters, Mrs. Paul Rose and Mrs. J. C. Bristow, Jr, of Franklin, Mrs. C. R. Herrin and Mrs. W. T. Powell of Lawrenceville and Miss Elizabeth Beale of this town, and ten grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Geo. H. Beale of Franklin, S. R. Beale and Hugh P. Beale of the Courtland community, and by three sisters, Mrs. Mariah Carter and Mrs. Annie Oberry of Newsoms and Mrs. Jno. T. Edwards of Richmond. Mr. Beale was a faithful member of Sycamore Baptist Church and a deacon of that organization. He was a successful farmer and for a number of years had taken a pride in producing the first cotton blooms in this county. Maintaining an active interest in the affairs of his community, he was a good citizen and neighbor and a kind and affectionate husband and father in the home. On account of failing health, he moved to Franklin about two years ago and relinquished the active affairs of farming, his death last week resulting from a stroke of paralysis sustained a few days before.
