FRANKLIN - Thelma Barrett Whitley, 82, died Sunday, June 24 [1990], in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk. 

A native of Statesville, Mrs. Whitley retired from Birdsong Peanut Co. after 20 years. She was a member of High Street Methodist Church. She was a former teacher of the first and second grades at Sebrell and Sunbeam elementary schools. Mrs. Whitley graduated from Farmville State Teachers College. 

Survivors include her husband, Willie Lee Whitley; a son, William Lee Whitley of Chuckatuck; a sister, Mabel Barrett Nelson of Richmond; a brother, Mark Everett Barrett of Franklin; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday [June 26 1990] in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. E. Lane Wadsworth. 

The family will be at the residence.
