Ruth Barnes Obituary Ruth Hope Barnes October 10, 1934 - July 18, 2023 Courtland - Ruth Hope Barnes, 88, passed away July 18, 2023 with her family by her side. Born in Dinwiddie County, she was a daughter of the late Myron and Mattie Hawkins Barnes. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Shirley Rogers, Barbara Fowler, and Emma Pulley. Hope was a 1953 graduate of Dinwiddie High School and was a retired secretary for Hancock Peanut Company with 30 years of service. She was a member of Capron United Methodist Church. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 68 years, Lonnie Grizzard Barnes; three sons, Dennis Ray Barnes (Cindy), Kenneth Myron Barnes (Debbie), and Joseph Allen Barnes (Leesa); eight grandchildren, Stacy and Melissa Barnes, Ken and Steven Barnes, and Zachary, Madison, Erica and Trever Barnes; five great grandchildren, River Barnes, Austin, Bella and Carter Barnes, and Mayleigh Barnes; several nieces and nephews; and a special furry companion, Maggie. A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Monday, July 24, 2023 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Brockhausen officiating. Burial will follow in Capron Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM Sunday, July 23 in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, Help Fight RA, 8815 Conroy Windermere Rd., Suite 309, Orlando, FL 32835.
