Karl Askew Obituary Karl W. Askew Suffolk - Karl Wesley Askew passed away on July 6, 2013. He was born on July 17, 1928 in Ahoskie, NC. Karl was the son of the late Wilton W. and Lois Holloman Askew. He is survived by his beloved son and caregiver, Karl Wesley Askew II, of Suffolk, VA. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard L. Askew and James W. Askew, both of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. Karl was a graduate of Maury High School. He enlisted in the USAAC on Mar. 6, 1946 and completed his basic training as a Photo Lab Technician, Official U. S. Army Photographer, at Lowry Field, Denver, CO. He was then assigned overseas as an aerial photographer, first in Japan and then at Clark Field, Manila, P. I. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal on March 9, 1949 from Andrews AF Base, Washington, DC. Karl's varied employment history included work in CA, NJ, Washington, DC and many other parts of the country. He was also employed with the City of Norfolk, Dept. of Public Health and the Norfolk Housing & Redevelopment Authority under the federal program HUD. Karl retired from the International Longshoreman's Assn. He was an avid photographer and dancer and was a member of the Virginia Natural Living Legends and the Virginia Shaggers Hall of Fame. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 11, from 7 to 8 P. M., at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, VA.
