By the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virgtuis, A PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Executive by the sheriff of Southampion county, that on the night of the 3d of August the jail of said county was broke open, and three persons before confined therein made their escape therefrom, to wit: Matthew Gardner, Solomon Daughtry and Leonurd Alkinson. Gardner and Daughtry are under charge of murder; they had been tried by an examining court, and remanded to jail for further trial, as Atkinson had been for larceny. The aforesaid persons are now going at large: I do therefore, with the advice of the council of state, bereby offer a reward of two hundred dollars each for Gardner and Daughtry, and one hundred dollars for Atkinson, to any per- son or persons who shall apprehend and convey them, or ei- ther of them to the jail of Southampton county aforesaid.— And I do moreover require all officers civil and military, and exhoft the good people of the commonwealth to use their best endeavors to apprehend the aforesaid culprits, that they may be dealt with as the law directs. Gardner is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark skin, small blue eyes, speaks quick, stout and well made, round full face, Daughtry is about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 25 years old, fair skin, tolerably large blue eyes, light hair, bony face and rather prominent nose. At- kinson is about 30 or 35 years of age, upwards of 6 feet high, fair skin, hazle eyes, spare made, and thin face. September 24. 40-w4w
