At the House of Elizabeth Ricks in the County of Southampton on Thursday the eight day of June 1749 A commission of Peace and Obedience from the Hon????? the Lieutenant Governor under the seal of this colony be and Date the twentieth day of May 1749 directed to John Person and others was produced and Read whereupon ??????? to the said Dedimus John Person and Joseph Grey had Oaths appointed by Act of Parliament to be taken ins???? the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy the abjuration and Test administered to them by Jesse Brown and B??? Simmons which they took and subscribed the said ??? mentioned Oath and Test and took the Oath of a Justi?? the Peace and Judge in Chancery which was also admin???? to them by the said Jesse Brown and Benjamin Simmons and then the said John Person and Joseph Gray admins???? to Nathaniel Ridley, Thomas Jarrell, Etheldred Taylor, How???? Edmonds Benjamin Ruffin the said Jesse Brown & Benja???? Simmons Albridgton Jones James Ridley Peter Butts Samuel Blow and Thomas Williamson all the abovement???? Oaths which they took and severally subscribed the said Abjuration and Test. ------------------- Richard Kello produced a Commission from Thomas Nelson Esqr. Deputy Secretary of this Colony to be Clerk of this County during Pleasure which was Read And Thereupon the said Kello having first taken the Usual Oaths to his Majesty's Person and Government and taken and Subscribed the Abjuration Oath and Test was sworn Clerk of this Court according ????. ------------------- Benjamin Ruffin Gent produced a Commission from the Honble[sic] the Lieutenant Governor to be the Sheriff of this county during pleasure and thereupon he together with Howell Edmonds and Jesse Brown Gent order into and acknowledged.
