Mr. Young was born in Hyde County, N.C. He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church; Knights of Pythias; Dairy Herd Improvement Association; American Guernsey Cattle Club; Ducks Unlimited; Delaware Hunt Club; Franklin Moose Lodge; and Woodmen of the World. Survivors include his wife, Maude Griffin Young; a daughter, Annie Lee Duff of Suffolk; a son, Walter L. Young Jr. of Courtland; a sister, Janie Lee Green of Virginia Beach; two brothers, R.L. Young Jr. of Suffolk and Beale Young of Smithfield; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Southampton Memorial Park by the Rev. David Erickson and the Rev. Reginald Warren. Friends may join the family at 25296 Delaware Road, Courtland. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the church or to the American Cancer Society.
