Obituary of LILLIE RITCHIE HARWELL WILLIAMS Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - October 17, 1996 Lillie Harwell ''Sue'', ''Mimi'' Williams, 76, died Oct. 12, 1996, of natural causes at her home in Corvallis. Born Oct. 11, 1920 in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Banks Harwell and Lillie Buchanan Harwell. Mrs. Williams graduated from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton in 1941 and married 2nd Lt. Alton G. Williams on May 20, 1942. The couple traveled from station to station in the military both in the USA and overseas. This included a tour in Hokkaido, Japan and a later tour in Germany. Included also was a tour on ROTC Duty at Oregon State University from 1953-57. Upon Lt. Col. Williams' retirement in 1971 they settled in Corvallis. She enjoyed bowling, camping, gardening and playing bridge. She and her husband were active members of the Town Club and the Junior Town Club, where she was a winner on numerous occasions. Mrs. Williams was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church and also was a past President of the Chintimini Garden Club. She is survived by her husband Lt. Col. (Ret.) Alton G. ''Al'' Williams of Corvallis; and 3 children, Alton G. ''Gus'' Williams Jr. of Oregon City, Ore., Laura W. Yost of Tucson, Ariz., and Sarah S.W. Pritchett of Springfield, Ore.; a sister, Ellen H. Reigner of Lady Lake, Fla.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service was held Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Corvallis. Mrs. Williams will be cremated and her remains will be placed in Willamette National Cemetery with an additional marker placed in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg.
