Obituary of Calvin Russell Whitehead Sr. CALVIN RUSSELL WHITEHEAD SR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 24, 2000 Calvin Russell Whitehead Sr., 77, of the 800 block of Pinecrest Drive, died Dec. 22, 2000, in his residence. Born in Courtland, Va., he retired as a machinist with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 38 years and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was past master of Doric Lodge No. 44 A.F.&A.M. and its secretary for 19 years. Mr. Whitehead was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Madora A. Whitehead; a daughter, Joanne Lazernick of Chesapeake; two sons, Calvin R. ''Pete'' Whitehead Jr. of Stevensville, Ohio, James M. Whitehead of Orlando, Fla.; a stepson, Steve Ashe of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Gaynelle Williamson and Winnie Satterfield, both of Virginia Beach, Eldred Floyd of Chesapeake, and Barbara Hogwood of Norfolk; a brother, Hugh C. Whitehead of Virginia Beach; and eight grandchildren, David, Angie, Jason, Jeff, Jenny, Mandy, Samara and Joshua. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Clarence R. Brown Sr. and Chaplain Kenneth A. ''Toby'' Askew. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
