Obituary of Gladys Bryant Griffin Whalin GLADYS BRYANT GRIFFIN WHALIN Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - February 21, 2003 Gladys Bryant Griffin Whalin, 78, a retired nurse's assistant, died Feb. 19, 2003, at the East Pavilion. Gladys was a native of Southampton County and was a daughter of the late Jack and Kate Coggsdale Bryant. She was Presbyterian. Survivors include her daughter, Joyce G. Ricks and husband, Mac of Pendleton, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Theresa W. Griffin; four sisters, Janie Griffin, Jackie McGhee, Irma Howard and Barbara Babb; five grandchildren, Robin, Donna Jean, Tina, Lisa and Ray; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of devoted nieces and nephews. Mrs. Whalin was predeceased by a son, Ernest "Bubba" Griffin and a sister, Evelyn Howard. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. James W. Browder III officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
