Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late J.L. and Pattie Hart Kelly and was the widow of Rowland Bryan Vaughan Sr. Mrs. Vaughan was a longtime choir member of the Capron United Methodist Church, was a past president of the Capron PTA, and was a former correspondent for The Tidewater News. Survivors include two daughters, Katherine McWaters and husband Cliff of Chesapeake and Melodie Brightol of Coconut Creek, Fla.; five sons, Rowland B. Vaughan Jr. and wife Jean of Franklin, J. Kelley Vaughan and wife Peggy of Emporia, Reginald T. Vaughan and wife Myrtis of Capron, Darden W. Vaughan and wife Jennie of Chesapeake and Jack H. Vaughan and wife Kim of Milford, Del.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James Wilkes officiating. Burial will follow in Capron Cemetery .
