  L. Madoline Uzzell, 87, formerly of Smithfield, died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, in Newport News. 
  She was a native of Isle of Wight County and a retired sales clerk from the Miller and Rhodes Department Store.  She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church as well as a member of the church choir. 
  She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Uzzell Barrett. 
  She is survived by a niece, Ethel Barrett Long of Hampton and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. 
  A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Macon B. Walton officiating.  Burial will follow in Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Windsor.
