Obituary of Dorothy Harper Urquhart DOROTHY HARPER URQUHART Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, September 3, 1997 Dorothy Harper Urquhart, 87, died Sept. 1, 1997, in her home. Born in Stuart's Draft, Va., she was the daughter of the late George A. and Carmen Hicks Harper and the widow of Charles Fox Urquhart Jr. She was a member and vestryman of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Courtland . She was a member of the Virginia, Atlantic Coast, American, and International Camellia Societies, and an accredited judge and former director of the American Camellia Society. For her long-term membership in and service to the Franklin Garden Club and the Garden Club of Virginia, she was the recipient of the 1992-93 DeLacey Grey Medal for Conservation. She was a Charter member of the Southampton County Historical Society. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Louisa Urquhart Bryant and her husband, Lloyd D. Jr., of Cary, N.C.; a son, Charles Fox Urquhart III, and his wife, Gayle, of Courtland ; a sister, Evelyn Harper Pleasants of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Susan Bryant Bartholemew, and her husband, Ron, of Raleigh, Rebecca Bryant Lamb and her husband, Hugh, of Asheville, Jill Claire Urquhart and James Burwell Urquhart, both of Courtland . Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Riverside Cemetery , Courtland , by the Rev. James W. Browder III. The casket will be placed in St. Luke's Church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Urquhart's residence, 26060 Court St., Courtland . In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the American Camellia Society, One Massey Lane, Fort Valley, Ga. 31030 or the Southampton County Historical Society, c/o Lynda Updike, 33335 Statesville Road, Newsoms, Va. 23874.
