Obituary of Hubert Cale Tillery HUBERT CALE TILLERY Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - January 17, 2001 Hubert Cale Tillery passed away Jan. 16, 2001, at Nansemond Pointe after a long illness. He was 86. Born in Lewiston, N.C., to David Linwood and Lessie Taylor Tillery, he grew up with nine brothers and sisters in Southampton County, Va. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in India during World War II. After military service and marriage, he made Suffolk his family's home. He was involved in automobile sales for more than 40 years. Mr. Tillery was a past member of the Lions and Elks clubs; past member and president of the Suffolk Shrine Club; and a Mason. He was a longtime member of West End Baptist Church and its Sunday School, serving as deacon and usher for many years. In 1998, West End recognized him as deacon emeritus. In addition to his parents, his wife of 50 years, Emelyn Hart Tillery, two sisters, Marie and Beatrice, and two brothers, Henry and Julian, predeceased him. A son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy; and two grandchildren, John and Karen, all of Franklin, survive him. He is also survived by four sisters and a brother, Beverly Johnson of Newport News, Lessie Edwards and Katherine Daughtrey of Franklin, Eleise Hancock and Cecil Tillery of Sedley; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. T. Floyd Irby at West End Baptist Church. Burial will be at Beechwood Cemetery in Boykins, Va. The family will receive friends at R.W.
