Obituary of REBA COLLIER THORPE The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - March 16, 1993 Reba Collier Thorpe, 80, of the 33200 block of Barnes Church Circle, a former schoolteacher, died March 14, 1993, at Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. Mrs. Thorpe, a native of Mecklenburg County, was the widow of Lee L. Thorpe. She was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church and the administrative council, a lifetime member of United Methodist Women, Golden Age Club and Southampton County Historical Society. She was also a member of United Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College. Survivors include two daughters, Lynda T. Updike of Newsoms and Faye T. Coats of Lexington, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Lee John Updike, Kelly Lynn Updike, Jennifer Updike, Mary Alice Coats and David Lee Coats. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Barnes United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charlene Beethoven of the Newsoms United Methodist Charge, the Rev. Kenneth Williams of Newsoms Baptist Church and the Rev. David Erkison of Franklin United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery . McDowell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
