Obituary of EVELYN CECILE THORNTON The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, October 5, 1993 Evelyn Cecile Thornton, of the Village at Woods Edge, Franklin, Va., died Oct. 4, 1993. Miss Thornton was the daughter of the late William Norman and Evie Williams Thornton. During the tenure of Miss Thornton's professional career, she served Virginia education as a teacher, school librarian and supervisor of libraries. At the time of her retirement she was the supervisor of libraries for Arlington County. Miss Thornton was a past president of the School Libraries Section of the Virginia Education Association and former chairman and member of various committees in the American Library Association. She was also a member of many professional education organizations. Many of her articles were published in professional journals on state and national levels. Survivors include a sister, Katherine T. Clements of Courtland ; a brother, Dr. William N. Thornton Jr. of Charlottesville; four nieces, three nephews, five great-nieces and five great-nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery , Courtland , with the Rev. James W. Browder, Rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Courtland , officiating.
