Obituary of Gail Hall Tawney GAIL HALL TAWNEY Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Sunday, September 12, 2004 Gail Hall Tawney, 69, a longtime resident of Franklin and Southampton County, died Sept. 10, 2004, at Louise Obici Hospital. A native of New Bern, N.C., she was a daughter of the late John Allen and Pattie Belle Williams Hall. Gail was a graduate of Franklin High School and worked for Union Camp Corporation for more than 30 years where she retired as office manager of the Woodlands Division. She was an active member of High Street United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Eastern Star. She was a tireless worker for several community organizations including Relay For Life and Franklin Womens Club. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and especially loved her days at the beach. Gail is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard L. "Dick" Tawney; two sons, Michael Tawney and wife Meg of Hebron, Md., William Tawney and wife Janice of Franklin; a brother, Charles Hall and wife Greta of Franklin; three grandchildren, Shea Tawney, Jordan Belle Tawney and Will Tawney; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Walker and Dakota Jackson. Mrs. Tawney was predeceased by three sisters, Irma H. Bell, Frances H. Lowe and Ruby H. Morris; and two brothers, Elmer K. Hall and John A. Hall Jr. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Linda Alvis and the Rev. Edward Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggest memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o June S.
