The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - September 19, 1995 James Thomas ``Tick'' Story Jr., 86, a lifelong resident of Newsoms , died Sunday, Sept. 17, 1995, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. Mr. Story was the son of the late James Thomas Sr. and Lillie Holloman Story. He attended Virginia Polytechnical Institute. He was a member and trustee of the Newsoms United Methodist Church, served as mayor of Newsoms for eight years and on the Newsoms Town Council for 34 years. He was a former member of the Board of Dominion National Bank and a charter member of the Newsoms Ruritan Club. He was also a former member of the Newsoms Hunt Club. He was a retired merchant and farmer. He operated the Story Supply Co. in Newsoms from the early 1930's until he retired in 1975. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nellie Worrell Story; two sons, James Thomas Story III of Houston, Texas, Lewis Edward Story of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Kathryn Story of Boykins, Mrs. Gene S. Icard of Sarasota, Fla.; two granddaughters, Jennifer G. Story of Greensboro, Alison L. Story of Houston; three grandsons, James S. Story of North Olmsted, Ohio, Lewis E. Story Jr. of Greensboro, and James Thomas Story IV of Houston. He was predeceased by four sisters, Elsie S. O'Berry, Lucille S. Drewry, Ethlyn S. Prince and Mildred S. Coleman. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hollywood Cemetery , Newsoms , by the Rev. Derek Koolman and the Rev. Kenneth Williams. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
