Born Sept. 18, 1911, in Southampton County, she was one of eight children of the late William Joseph and Cora Cutchins Umphlette and the widow of Leland Story. She was a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. Mrs. Story is survived by a daughter, Shirley Story Gayle and her husband, Russell, of Franklin; a sister, Cora Umphlette McClenny of Prince George, Va.; a granddaughter, Robin Gayle Rudd of Graham, N.C.; two grandsons, Mike Gayle of Franklin and Troy Gayle of Seville, Ohio; and two great-granddaughters, Kristin Rudd and Jordan Gayle. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Alan R.W. Campbell officiating.
