Obituary of Vernon Jefferson Smith Jr. VERNON JEFFERSON SMITH JR. Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - August 6, 2001 Vernon Jefferson Smith Jr., 68, of Virginia Ave., went to be with the Lord and be reunited with his wife, Doris Loden Smith, on Aug. 4, 2001. Vernon was a native of the Hampton Roads area and spent his last 38 years in the Bennett's Creek area of Suffolk and the Windsor community of Isle of Wight County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Old Dominion University and worked as a general foreman at Ford Motor Company for 37 years, where he retired in 1987. He was a member of Windsor Congregational Christian Church, where he served as an active member on the Board of Deacons. He was also a charter member of the Bennett's Creek Area Volunteer Rescue Squad and an active member of Windsor Ruritan Club. Moreover, he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed. Vernon was predeceased by his loving wife, Doris Loden Smith. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Terry Lee and Judy Ann Smith of Smithfield, Todd J. and Kelly Jo Smith of Carrollton; five grandchildren, LeAnne Nicole, Austin Lee, Amber Lauren, Todd Jr., Joanna Lyn; and many good friends and neighbors. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Windsor Congregational Christian Church by the Rev. Basil L. Ballard with burial in Windsor Cemetery . The family will receive friends in R.W.
