Mrs. Smith was a native of Roanoke, Va. She was a loving teacher to many students at Southampton Academy. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth I. Smith; two daughters, Sharon S. Cobb and her husband Emmett R. Cobb of Boykins and Miriam S. Birdsong and her husband Everett B. Birdsong of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Jessica L. Cobb, Brook Birdsong and Lillie Birdsong; her mother, Dorothy Sprinkle Stoltz of Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her father, Vernie Thomas Stoltz. At Mrs. Smith's request, her body was donated to the state anatomical program. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1994, at Southampton Academy, Courtland, Va.
