James Sanford ``Jimmy'' Shelton, 66, died July 11, 2001, in Sentara Leigh Hospital. 

Jimmy was born in Hopewell, a son of the late Maurice Marion and Vassie Edwards Shelton. He was a retired security officer with the City of Norfolk and a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk. 

Survivors include three aunts, Katherine E. Weaver of Franklin, Martha E. Bishop of Carrsville and Gertrude Shelton of Maryland; four uncles, L.T. Edwards, Cecil Edwards, William Edwards and Robert Edwards, all of Franklin; special friends, Roy Rice, Claud and Irene Trafton and Arlene Nelson, all of Norfolk; and several cousins. He was predeceased by two aunts, Grace E. Whitfield and Manie Wilson and an uncle, Marvin T. Edwards. 

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Poplar Spring Cemetery , Franklin. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is in charge of arrangements.
