Obituary of Walter Semchyshyn WALTER SEMCHYSHYN Home News Tribune (Oct/31/2005) BRIDGEWATER -- Walter Semchyshyn, 80, died Thursday (Oct. 27, 2005) in Franklin, Va. Walter was born on Jan. 20, 1925, to Ukrainian immigrant parents, Stella and Harry. He was raised in Bound Brook, along with his two sisters and two brothers. He joined the Army during World War II and was a technical sergeant in Patton's 3rd Army, serving in 179 Combat Engineer Platoon, where he fought from the Normandy campaign all the way to Volklabruck, Austria. He returned from the service and attended college at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He married his college sweetheart, Blanche Ivey, in 1948 and they moved to Bridgewater in 1954. In his career, Walt worked in the fields of chemical engineering and production management. He retired in 1986. He became an active member and officer of the Bridgewater Senior Citizens and the Bridgewater United Methodist Church attending many of its functions and trips. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 12 in Somerville. Walter was an avid gardener and loyal fan of Virginia Tech and especially enjoyed yard sale shopping with his wife and traveling to the Outer Banks in Kittyhawk, N.C. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Blanche Ivey; his daughters, Denise Timofai and her companion, Andy Preston, Sharon Orlando and her husband, Joe, and Brenda Ivey; six grandchildren, Carey, Kimberly, Katherine, Timothy, Ashlee and Damien; and his four great-grandchildren, Darren, Tristan, Ashia and Rosalynne. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave., Somerville. Interment in Bound Brook Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
