Born in Southampton County, she was a daughter of the late Levi Phillip and Alice Crabor Raiford and the widow of Emmett Marvin Scott Sr. She attended Farmville State Teachers College and was a former teacher in the Southampton County Public School system. She was a very active member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ where she had taught Sunday school, Ladies Bible Study and had been involved with the church circles. Survivors include two daughters, Jean S. Marks of Franklin and Ann S. Perkins and husband Robert of Portage, Mich.; a son, Emmett Marvin Scott Jr. and wife Dolores of Duck, N.C.; five grandchildren, Stacey Scott-Batterson of Norfolk, Suzanne Scott Duck of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Edward Marks of Courtland, Todd Perkins of Kalamazoo, Mich., Robert Perkins of Detroit, Mich.; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and seven sisters. A graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Poplar Spring Cemetery by the Rev. James W. Browder III and the Rev. Denise Smelley. The family will recieve friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorials be made to Hunterdale UCC, 741 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
