A native of South Mills, N.C., he retired as a police officer with Norfolk Naval Base and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Sever Sawyer. Survivors include two daughters, Elise E. Sawyer and Judy J. Cahalan, both of Virginia Beach; and three grandchildren, Corrine, Chelsea and Zachary James. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Steve Bradshaw. Friends may join the family at the residence for visitation. Family and friends will leave from the residence for the processional on the day of the service. Contributions may be made to Windsor Rescue Squad, 19 Windsor Blvd., Windsor, Va. 23487.
