Obituary of Carolyn St. Clair Saunders CAROLYN ST. CLAIR SAUNDERS Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - May 31, 2000 Carolyn St. Clair Saunders, 91, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Lakewood Manor Baptist Home, Richmond, Va. Born in Bonsack, Va., she was the daughter of the late James Scott St. Clair and Martha Kennedy St. Clair. She was always a dedicated and active member of Ivor Baptist Church. In 1981, she moved to Richmond where she joined Derbyshire Baptist Church. She was a graduate of National Business College in Roanoke, Va. and during her lifetime she was very civic minded serving as a director of WMU of Blackwater Association; vice president of the Board of Trustees of the Walter Cecil Rawls Library and Museum established in Courtland, Va., in 1955; a president of Virginia Federated Woman's Club of the Southside District in Virginia; chairman of the Social Services Board, Southampton County, Va.; and served on many committees of the Lakewood Manor Baptist Home. Mrs. Saunders was the widow of Homer Stuart Saunders Sr. formerly of Ivor, Va. She is survived by her son, Homer Stuart Saunders Jr. and his wife, Peggy; grandson, H. Stuart Saunders III and wife, Kimberly; and granddaughter, Amy S. Steinbrink and husband, Scott, all of Georgia. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ivor Baptist Church, Ivor, Va., with the Rev. J. Lytle Buckingham and the Rev. Linwood Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery . The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad or Ivor Baptist Church, Ivor, Va.
