Obituary of Dorothy "Dot" Mitchell Sandlin DOT MITCHELL SANDLIN Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - December 28, 2003 Dorothy "Dot" Mitchell Sandlin, 81, affectionately known as "Mama Dot," died Dec. 26, 2003, at The Village at Woods Edge. Born in Brunswick County, she was a daughter of the late William B. and Willie Mae Weaver Mitchell and the widow of Robert E. Sandlin Sr. Mrs. Sandlin was a retired buyer for Peebles department store, a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, and the Christian Womens Club. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member and Pink Lady of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and an avid bridge player. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra S. Wilkins of Franklin; two sons, Robert E. Sandlin Jr. of Beaufort, S.C., and Mitchell Sandlin of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Elizabeth W. Sawyer of Franklin, Kimberly S. Short of Cary, N.C., Renee S. Bowers of Summerville, S.C. and Raleigh Wilkins of Rockville, Md.; four great-grandchildren; and a dear devoted friend, Dorothy Evans. Mrs. Sandlin was predeceased by an infant son, William Frederick Sandlin, three sisters and five brothers. A funeral will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Harrell and the Rev. Charles Chappell officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery .
