Obituary of James Benjamin Rogers Jr. JAMES BENJAMIN ROGERS JR. (headline) Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, February 20, 2002 James Benjamin Rogers Jr., 81, born Sept. 11, 1920, in Columbus County, N.C., son of the late James Benjamin Rogers Sr. and Rosa McRoy Rogers. Mr. Rogers passed away Feb. 18, 2002, in Southampton Memorial Hospital, after a long, courageous battle as a stroke patient. He was a commanding officer of the Franklin Civil Air Patrol, Franklin; former president and vice president of The Forks of the River Ruritan Club; Zone II Governor of the Holland Ruritan District, Holland; one of the founding members of the Franklin Heart Fund; and former volunteer fireman for the Franklin City Fire Department. Mr. Rogers was former owner of Rogers Radio and TV Sales and Service, Franklin. He was a former salesman at AVEC Electronics, Norfolk. He was a salesman for Franklin Concrete Products and a World War II Army Air Force veteran. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and a member of Brunner Men's Bible Class. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Bernice C. Rogers of 42 years; two sons, the Rev. Ritchie J. (Jimmy) Rogers of Hopewell, Va., and Donald Wayne Rogers of Franklin; four grandchildren, Sheree R. Marlin and husband Dale of Walters, Va., Merdith S. Rogers of Franklin, Michael Rogers of Sedley, Va., Denise Smith and husband Ricky of Raleigh, N.C.; and a special niece, Regina R. Harris of Wintergreen, Va. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Baker Rogers. A visitation will be held today at Holland-Rideout Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Roy E. DeBrand and Dr. Ira D. Hudgins. Interment will be in Southampton Memorial Park , Franklin.
