Obituary of James Edward Rhodes JAMES EDWARD RHODES The Tidewater News - 08-19-2004 RICHMOND - James Edward Rhodes, 63, died Aug. 14 at his residence. A native of Franklin, he was the son of the late William Jasper and Avis Hooker Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes was a retired retail manager. He graduated from Franklin High School and was an alumnus of the University of Virginia where he was a member of Kappa Signa Fraternity and the tennis team. Mr. Rhodes was an avid tennis enthusiast and was a former Virginia State single's and double's champion. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout. He was a Methodist. Survivors include a sister, Jean R. Boone of Chesapeake; a brother, William J. Rhodes, Jr. and wife, Gene of Franklin; a nephew; and three nieces, including a special niece, Beth Boone Noel of Seaford; five great-nephews and nieces; special friends, Roger Lee Kayser, Rudolph Berger and Janet Smith of Richmond, Nancy Hart Gray and Peggy B. Wright, both of Franklin; close relatives, Mande Hawkins of Hampton and Patricia Griffin of Richmond. He was predeceased by a niece, Carolyn Phillips Rhodes. A private graveside funeral was conducted Aug. 18 in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, with the Rev.
