Obituary of THOMAS T. REES Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - May 22, 1996 Thomas Theodore Rees, formerly of Summersville, W.Va., died May 21, 1996, at Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mr. Rees was 96 years of age. Mr. Rees was a charter member of the Summersville Presbyterian Church and elected elder emeritus in 1972. Mr. Rees, past president of the Northern Coal Operators Association, was president and general manager of Tioga Coal Co. from 1940 until 1952. From 1953 until 1957, he was owner and president of Jerry Fork Coal Co. He was past president of the Strouds Creek and Muddlety Railroad. In 1951 he founded the Mid-State Coal Mining Institute to promote mine safety. Survivors include his wife, Reba Falwell Rees; a daughter, Carole R. Moyler, and son-in-law, J. Edward Moyler Jr. of Franklin; three grandchildren, James E. Moyler III of Richmond, Rees M. Johnston of Pawley's Island, S.C., and Amelia M. McCarthy of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at Poplar Spring Cemetery Thursday at 11:30 a.m. by the Rev. James Lambeth.
