Obituary of Mary Page Barnes Powell MARY PAGE BARNES POWELL Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - January 22, 2004 Mary Page Barnes Powell died Jan. 20, 2004, after a long illness. She was born in Amelia Court House on Feb. 5, 1915, to Martha Jane Allen and Robert Royal Barnes. She was the wife of the late Ferrell Franklin Powell and the mother of Ferrell Franklin Powell Jr. of Emerald Isle, N.C., Benjamin Barnes Powell of Franklin and Mrs. Andrew K. Birchenall (Martha Allen Powell) of Middletown, Del. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Jaye Meyer of Raleigh, N.C., Emily Albrecht of Springfield, Va., Andy Powell of Bergen, Norway, Hobson Powell of Los Angeles, Calif., Alex Birchenall of Newark, Del., and Ben and Kelsey Birchenall of Middletown; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Albrecht of Springfield and Oliver Powell of Bergen, Norway. Two brothers, Robert Allen Barnes formerly of Norfolk and James Henry Barnes formerly of Martinsville, preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Harrisonburg State Teachers College and was a music teacher in the public schools of Occoquan, Waynesboro and Franklin, Va. She was a member of High Street Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a past president and member of the Franklin Music Study Club. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Poplar Spring Cemetery . Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home. The family requests no gifts of food or flowers and asks that memorial donations be made to the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia, 800 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23504 or to the Food Bank at Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, 300 West Church St., Lawrenceville, VA 23868.
