Obituary of Richard Lewter Pond Sr. RICHARD LEWTER POND DONATED OBIT - 07-24-1999 ††SUFFOLK - Richard Lewter Pond Sr., 88, died July 24, 1999 at Obici Hospital. ††A native of Woodland, N.C., he was the son of the late Charles B. and Clara Outland Pond. Mr. Pond was a local businessman with Pond Brothers Peanut Co. for 63 years and was most recently CEO of Commonwealth Storage, which he started in 1974. He was president of Mar-Ja Cold Storage and CEO of Producers Peanut Co. and president of Ferguson Manufacturing Co. Mr. Pond was a charter member of West End Baptist Church and a past chairman of the board of Trustees, Deacon Emeritus and a member of the Progressive Mens Bible Class. He was a member of the Suffolk Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and past president. ††Survivors include his wife, Katherine Pond; his children, Richard L. Pond, Jr. and his wife, Sylvia, of Suffolk, Jeffrey G. Pond and his wife, Kathy of Smithfield, and Julia P. Brady and her husband, Jerry, of Richmond; his stepchildren, Cathy E.
