Obituary of James Edward Pittman JAMES EDWARD PITTMAN The Tidewater News - 03-04-2004 SUFFOLK - James Edward Pittman, 84, died Feb. 29 at his home. Born May 15, 1919, in Spruce Pine, N.C., he was the son of the late James S. and Lucy Coats Pittman. Mr. Pittman was a member of First Baptist Church and Moose Lodge No. 41. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a retired crane operator with the Norfolk Navy Yard-Craney Island. Survivors include his wife, Doris Holland Pittman; daughters, Betty Jean Ellis and husband "Fuzzy" of Suffolk, Christine DeBause and husband Larry of Windsor, Sandy Hoffman and fianc'e Keith Tadlock Sr. of Suffolk; sisters, Hazel Forbes and Lucille Krause, both of Marion, N.C.; grandchildren, Terry and Anne Ellis of Sussex County, Shelby DeBause of Fredericksburg, Tabitha Saunders of Suffolk, Beth Saunders of Jarvisburg, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service was conducted by the Rev. David H. Chauncey. The family received friends in R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory March 2.
