Mr. Pierce was born in Hobgood, N.C., and had retired from the Pulp Mill Department of Union Camp Corp. in Franklin after 34 years. He was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church. He was a member of the Bronco Rod and Gun Club and was the widower of Winnie Wynn Pierce. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Barron of Gunnison, Colo., and Winnie Patterson of Norfolk; two stepdaughters, Mamie Pritchett of Jamesville, N.C., and Hazel Drewry of Newport News; a stepson, Louis Lawrence of Franklin; two sisters, Nannie Harris of Elizabeth City and Patti Taylor of Beaufort, N.C.; a brother, Reginald Pierce of Rocky Mount, N.C.; 30 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin by Pastor Joseph Mullen. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery , Courtland . Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
