Obituary of Robert Lycurgas Petty III ROBERT LYCURGAS PETTY III Virginian Pilot - 04-11-2004 FRANKLIN - Robert L. Petty, III, 82, died April 9, 2004, in his home. Born in Opelika Ala., his parents were Robert L. Jr. and Katherine Jernigan Petty. At an early age, he moved to Columbia, Tenn., where he graduated from Columbia Military Academy and then from Vanderbilt University. He was an intelligence officer in the Army Air Corps serving in Italy in World War II. Mr. Petty was a chemical engineer with Union camp Corporation. He was a longtime member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and a former member of the Franklin Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruth Tucker Petty; a son, Robert Tucker Petty; and three granddaughters, Sarah Tucker Petty, Dr. Tomi K. Gross of Chicago and Andrea F. Gross of Charlottesville. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. Edmund Pickup officiating. There will be a reception following the Parish Hall. Visitation will be at the residence, 116 Southampton Road, Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorials be made to the Outreach Fund of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 400 N.
