Obituary of HARVEY J. PENCE The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk, VA) - January 13, 1995 Col. Harvey Johnson Pence, U.S. Army (Ret.), 82, of 1401 North High St., died Thursday, Jan. 12, 1995, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Col. Pence was born in Danville, Va., and was a former resident of Murfreesboro, N.C. He was the son of the late Lawrence Neff and Lelia Dandridge Pence. During Col. Pence's 25-year Army career he served during World War II and the Korean War. Col. Pence was a member of High Street United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men and served on the church's administrative board. He was a 1933 graduate of Virginia Military Institute, a member of the Franklin Rotary Club, American Legion, Cypress Cove Country Club and the Retired Officers Association. He was a former president of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club, former president of Beechwood Country Club and former president of Murfreesboro Historical Society. He was a charter member of Fred's Coffee Club, Franklin. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Anne Williams Pence; one daughter and her husband, Nena Pence and Forrest M. Teller and a granddaughter, Katherine Anne Holcombe, all of Richmond; one sister, Theresa Pence Lutz of Broad Run, Va. A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. David Erickson officiating. The family will receive friends at the Village at Woods Edge from 7:30 to 8.30 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the High Street United Methodist Church or Virginia Military Institute.
