Obituary of Virgil Odom Patterson VIRGIL ODOM PATTERSON Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, July 4, 2001 Virgil Odom Patterson, U.S. Navy retired master chief petty officer, 76, died July 2, 2001, at his home. Born in Baton Rouge, La., he was the son of the late John Richard and Aleph Jackson Patterson. He was the retired former president of Sachs Nut Co. and was a retired master chief petty officer with 24 years in the Navy, having served in the Pacific in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Sedley Hunt Club and the VFW. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Sally Gass Patterson; three daughters, Annette Matt of Pulaski, Ruth P. Edsall of Franklin and Mary Patterson of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, John Patterson of Traver City, Mich., and Frank Patterson of Sedley; a sister, Virginia Moake of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Willetta Heising and the Rev. Harold Harter officiating. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park . The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and other times at the residence at 17437 Johnsons Mill Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department, 18080 Johnsons Mill Road, Sedley, VA 23878.
