Mr. Ownby was a native of South Charleston, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Alex H. and Orpha Pauley Ownby. He was an Army veteran and a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired as a chemical operator for Union Carbide in 1971. Mr. Ownby was a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church, Walters, Va., Purdie Masonic Lodge (NU)170 AF & AM of Windsor, Va., Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies and Kedive Temple of Norfolk, Va. Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Martha Cox Ownby; two daughters: Nancy Ownby Blythe and Theresa Ownby Curnutte, both of Walters, Va.; four grandchildren: Dave Blythe of Virginia Beach, Va., Dina Bulls and Trent Blythe of Walters, Va., and Heather Marens Clark of Norfolk, Va.; one great-granddaughter: Lindsay Cox Bulls of Walter, Va. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 1994, in the Mount Carmel Christian Church Cemetery by Rev. Robert Bennett. Masonic rites will be accorded at the grave. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggest memorial donations be made in his memory to Mount Carmel Christian Church Perpetual Care, Walters, Va. 23481.
