Larry Beale Overby, 90, widower of Birdie Blythe Overby, died July 17, 2003. Born in Emporia, Va., he was one of 12 children of the late Robert C. and Nellie Beale Overby. Mr. Overby was a retired superintendent for W.H. Scott Contractors and a member of Hunterdale United Church of Christ. 

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn O. Parrish of Chester and Jean O. Joyner and husband, David of Portsmouth; a brother, Linwood H. Overby of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Carol P. Dotson, Kay P. LeRoy, Jeffrey Neal Joyner and Michael David Joyner; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Dotson and James Whipp. 

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hunterdale United Church of Christ with the Revs. Dietmar Plajer, Wayne Blythe and Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery . The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Hunterdale United Church of Christ, 741 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
